What Happened To The Age Verification?

Posted in society | Friday, 09 May 2008 | Comments (1)

Gods know that I am not sure if writing this is a wise idea. It is like calling a sleeping demon from the bottom of the lamp. But Nicholaz passed the question and… *sigh* … let's hope for the best.

Really, what happened to the age verification? Read more…

Red Light District

I've spent last couple of nights in a nice and vibrant place called Red Light District. Pretty little town square with a fountain, some shops, a church and, you guess, a lot of escorts. I am not sure if escorting is the oldest occupation of second life but one of the most active it surely is. And one that can give you a nice dose of surprises and questions as well. Read more…

Nexus Prime

A bit more than a month ago (that is, I am completely lost in time so I actually have no idea when it was) I TP'ed to Nexus Prime and saw skyscrapers devastated all over the street of the corporate level, smoke of burning tires, broken TV sets thrown around and all kind of mess. It was like a morning after a riot or revolution. Though, through the smoke, one could see some distant buildings intact, like that one where that weird cult resides, cathedral and the oil rig. OK, I am not sure about the oil rig, maybe those were my hopes projected cause I am very fond of that place. Read more…

Corporate Stupidity Or What?

You should check Gwyn's writing about future of the metaverse and Intergrid. It deals mostly with the current state of and what big companies wish and plan with our little toy:

Instead of an “unified metaverse”, they’re using the name ambiguously as a more fancy synonym of “virtual world”. The industry players wish to address a different target — games for teens — and are reluctant in accepting an “unified” environment. Each company wishes to have their own virtual universe and aggressively compete with the others.

Server Code And The Community

Posted in society | Tuesday, 22 April 2008 | Comments (5)

Few days ago Ari Blacktorne stated usual SL™ problems and asked for a replacement, for a new virtual world:

It already is public knowledge that the server and viewer code is such a spaghetti mess that to 'fix' it, they'd have to start over practically from scratch - and that won't happen.

Broken TV

I think there is a group that works on the new grid's architecture, but that is not why I am writing this. Something else kicked this train of thought. Read more…

Strike

Posted in society | Friday, 18 April 2008 | Comments (4)

In the case you haven't noticed, there was a three days SLbloggers strike that ended today. It was provoked by Linden Lab's new trademark lunacy which, have you ever doubt, had all kind of reactions, mostly negative ones. Strike itself, have you ever doubt, was controversal too. One of the posts, published during the strike was Galatea Gynoid's:

Now, normally LL can't say anything without legions of self-styled critics going out of their way to bend every possible word in the worst possible way to make it sound like something bad is occurring, and acting all alarmist to see who they can get fired up about nothing much. It is the path of the drama queen, and I got sick of it while I was still in high school, so I tend to just ignore it.

While I haven't seen anything good coming from the strike, my high school days made me staying silent during those three days. Yes, my high school thought me lazyness and not breaking the protests if I am not explicitly against them.

Polyamory Goes Official?

Posted in behind the IM's | Friday, 11 April 2008 | Comments (8)

I was in a late-night email check, not planning to rezz nor to mind any second life business tonight, but one group notice pointed to JIRA asking for enabling multiple partners. Officially recognized polyamory!

Harem

Well, polyamory is always a lovely issue. One of those that can keep me out of bed (hmm, that sounds strange now) for a bit more tonight. Read more…
