When I Was A Teenage Whore

Posted in behind the IM's | Wednesday, 28 November 2007 | Comments (13)

I have promised months ago, in comments on my noobhood memories, to share with you a bit of "my short, quite unsuccesfull but enlinghtning dancer/escort career". So, to correct the title of this post, I wasn't teen but noob, and I wasn't a whore but an escort. Never mind that both are names for prostitutes, second life population feels lower level of guilt when having cybersex for money is called escorting. Somehow I feel it is more about guilt of the clients, but that's beside the point here. So… me…. just a couple of weeks old… in desperate need of money.

And One More Thing That Makes Us Special

Posted in behind the IM's | Tuesday, 27 November 2007 | Comments (2)

Recently Gwyneth Llewelyn was analyzing what is the magic factor that makes second life so special. It is hard to put all the great things she said into one quote but I need one to start this writing

As pioneers of a new all-encompassing environment that is just now being created, it’s hard to step out and look at what we’ve accomplished. It doesn’t seem much. However, this is what the pioneers of mobile phones and emails have also felt when they started to incorporate these tools in their everyday routine — both for pleasure and for work — and didn’t feel overly “special” about it.

But we feel there is something special about it. And we all have our theories about what make second life special. Read more…

Sex, Violence And Scripting

Posted in behind the IM's | Monday, 26 November 2007 | Comments (6)

I've spent last two or three nights in an endless scripting adventure. For unknown reasons, and like I had nothing more pleasurable to do, I wanted to master those two toys: DCS and Sensations. For those who is not familiar with them, though I doubt we have such people here, DCS stands for Dynamic Combat System. It counts how strong you are and how many more bullets you can survive in sims where shooting is something you count on. It does some other nice things but that's beside the point. Sensations also deals with weapons, but it counts something very different, i.e. how close to orgasm you are, how painful is your master's new whip and overall hornyness of your being. As you can see, one system is for violence, other is for love, though borders are more than blurry in this case. Actually, both are doing the same thing. Both are trying to put something in numbers.

We spoke earlier about how to improve second life performance and this one is a short addition to that. Actually, this is a shameless theft of wisdom Torley shared in his new Tip of the Week video. Read more…

I Know Your Name, But Who Are You Today?

You walk the grid. You meet the people. You speak to them. You get to know them. A bit. Fine.

Time passes. Time passes faster in this world than in the other one, you know that. It is not that the Sun comes up three times in 24 hours, it's that things are changing faster here. And those people from the first sentence (and you too) are changing rapidly. You meet … no, wait… that was me…

I met the guy, couple of months ago. Nice. We did some talk, we did that friendship ritual. We rarely met after, but we exchanged IM's every now and then.  That's how I learned that he became a dog. Metamorphoses. Nice.

It is amazing how different layers of our lives are well aligned. OK, I'll translate this. So many times I see that second life, first life, all that different lives inside the first life (social, emotional, sexual, business…), all the avatars if there is more than one, even the life of this blog are hearing the same drummer. OK, give me another try. What happens when a friend call you on the phone?

Birth Of Extropia

In the beginning there was nothing. Consequently, I know nothing about that so I'll skip to the next phase.  Then, there was the sky and the sea. And there were four options in the World → Force Sun menu. Obviously, there was Sun and if you turn to midnight there was Moon. And it was good. Quite cool actually.

It takes several days for the gods of the grid to do those things and deliver you a new sim. Then, it's up to you to do the rest of genesis, divide ground from the sea, make trees, animals and all that stuff. I am not sure if there are any ribs needed, but then avatars show up and you can start eating an apple. Or even better… a cake. If there is a spoon, that is. Read more…
