They say it is one more of the asset-inventory-tekkie things. One of the second life's bugs. No it isn't. It's a disease. A nasty one. Everything goes fine, and then, a second or two after you exit the teleport, your skin turns black. Completely doomed black. Maybe just ass and legs, maybe just torso, or a face. Or everything. Disease, I tell you.
There is not much knowledge about it. Sometimes it helps to relog, rarely you can get away with just rebaking. But, most of the time it is here to live with it. Sometimes for days. And yes, as any immersionist knows, it is quite unpleasant. Recently I was standing at the entrance of Kowloon sim when the girl ported near me. She was still materializing, all gray, attachments rezzing one by one, and you could see how pretty she was. Beautiful proportional shape accented by mini skirt. Fancy 60's hat on long curly hair. Nice pose. Then that bloody black thing caught her.
She tried everything. Rebaking, reloging, changing clothes. No way. From what we have talked and the way she behaved, I knew she feels bad, maybe even embarrassed. I tried to calm her, to show somehow that I know how she feels. I doubt it made her feel better.
Last week it got me again. Determinated to find a cure for it I experimented a lot. And the researches showed some progress. At least, legs, ass and torso can be cured most of the time. Face is a bit of a hard bite. So I spent most of my time dressed in the black catsuit to accompany my black head. If I have to be all black, let it be with a style and the attitude!
So, you want to know what to do next time it grabs you? Change your underwear. I am serious. Or take it off. Or if you don't wear it, dress it. Get your panties and bra. Preferably something white. Socks and gloves are in the game too. Usually it helps to take them off. Or, in cases that are too hard, those that got your face and won't go away, undertake the skin transplantation.
So afterall, it might be some kind of asset-tekkie-stuff. But, what's the use of that when one feels like ill and condemned. And what databases have to do with underwear. It must be a health issue.

Perhaps you aren’t opening your eyes wide enough to admit all available light?

One of the interesting things about SL is that each resident has own bugs.
Funny thing is that it occurs to me when wearing black underwear. which is quite often, no much point in wearing white on my body.

Usually a rebake texture (client menu …. ctrl+alt+r) cures it.

Wow… That’s a new bug on me. I’ve seen some weird bugs, but never all black….

Not only that it is a desease, it is also a curse of some :)
I cought that bug last week – still fighting it – it comes and goes when my internet slows down – took off my panties for someone last night and my lower torso turned black – brutal! didnt realize the underwear fixed it – do the extra body parts fix it as well?
For a while nobody was complaining about this bug. Now it comes again.
I am not sure about extra body parts, this bug makes not much sense. I just shared what worked for me and that might help others.
