I really don't understand why anybody is using Internet Explorer, especially if one is aware that there are things on the internet more advanced than text with couple of images on an unformatted page like in the last decade of the past century. But, it is not all about usability and comfort. Something is in the security too.
I am not much of a geek so I cannot tell you exactly the details of the exploit, you shoud check GNUCITIZEN for that (via SLinsider). In short, if you visit malicious web page with Internet Explorer, your Secon Life client will launch, try to login and give your username and password to the page creator. Easy as that.

So, do yourself a favour, get a serious browser like Firefox or something. If you don't know, Firefox is free in both meanings of the word. It is free as a free beer so you don't have to pay for it. And it is free as a free speach, meaning its code is open and available to all the community which makes it so great as it is. There is a big yellow button on the sidebar of this page to get Firefox. After that, not only that you won't leave your passwords all over the internet, you'll be able to see this and many other sites as they were intended to look like. And yes, browsing with Firefox is faster than with Internet Explorer, noticably faster.
And your fun has just began. Then go to Firefox Extensions page and arm yourself with all the add-ons your heart was crying for, from simple interface customizations to dictionaries, bookmarking tools and what not. Start enjoying the web!

I totally second that: Go and get Firefox! Now! And in addition to all the thing’s said above, you’ll make a lot of webdesigners/web developers (like me) VERY happy, cause adapting webpages especially for IE can be a pain in the a**. Spread the firefox, abandon the IE! ;-)
As far as I understand from the comments, FF was not safe either, but is patched now, so upgrade the FF?
And Timothy, why would we want to make your life more easy? *grins*
Best one I’ve seen up to know, was schweppes.be website. They had a nifty, kick ass, good looking flash movie playing (actually, the whole website was flash, I think) but it did not do anything in FF. At all. I e-mailed the webmaster@ address I found by using IE, noting that a lot of people use FF and that not only IE users love the schweppes agrum. Two days later, I got a reply: email address non-existent. Aaargh!
*goes to check if – after a year – it’s fixed* Yep. Fixed. :d
Yes, part of the problem is (surprise!) LL’s fault. It seems that best thing is to skip clicking on SLURL’s and to delete secondlife:// protocol from your browser. Launch the client and type the location manually.
Yay for Firefox! Well, I am a bit prejudiced as an Apple-user since 15 years ;-) I simply don’t like Microsoft’s aggresive marketing strategies, as if there were no alternatives at all… And yes, Firefox is just working like it should – like a Mac actually *grins*
First steps in a good environment do make a difference – said the child of Amiga. :)
