I have spent the whole day banging my head what is going on in the world.Tried to put everything on paper, to sort things, to think cold-headed and calm. My main obsession was what are Lindens doing and why. But, along that line of thought another one sprang. It is just a what-if, but it sounds interesting, so I wanted to hear from you.
It seems like somebody is framing them. These attacks in last months are grouped not by coincidence. Question is whether the motive behind them are sexual, gambling and combat activities of residents or somebody just thinks it is the weak point where the empire of Second Life should be attacked first. There is a lot of competition around, there are virtual worlds that wants their share of population and profit. We have heard of dirtier tricks in the history of corporate life. If we follow that train, question is which groups of people opponent wants. Is it a world with safe family atmosphere and with no adult content? Strategy is obvious: make parents and general public feel Second Life is a place you don't want your kids to play. Or is it a world with adult content which wants their share of the sex clubs, casinos and combat? Then, they can use the same weapon for a different target. Make Second Life bad place for adult playing. If new rules become too rigid, there is a huge population which will left Second Life and search for a better place.
One thing is sure. Lindens are doing nothing good. At this moment they behave like they don't know what is going on and like they are trying to suffer as little as possible. That is not a strategy to win the war. One would expect good public relations as their key weapon. Contrary to that, they are keeping their bad habits. How many residents had password problems today? Those things happen, but somebody could wrote few lines and tell what is going on and apologize for the inconvenience. Just don't tell me that all the Lindens are very busy. There is a world with almost two million regular users out there! Somebody should be very busy communicating to them.
Now, tell me, am I too paranoid? Is scenario like this one possible?
