Look At the Sky!

in the spotlight 2 Comments

We got a new sky! At this moment you can see it only with First Look viewer but if you have seen some snapshots from the beta grid you know it is worth every byte of downloading. Sky is done by WindLight technology. I tried to make something of it… … but I was lazy to read nice and informative article in Second Life’s wiki. Instead of original snapshots here is Torley Linden’s video

Quick look to sky controls shows a nice set of sliders in three tabs. Your godly creations can be saved as presets. But,

this experimental section will be overhauled and streamlined in the weeks to come, so please don’t invest too much time in making presets. Our intention here is to give you a quick way to recall personal favorites.

Hopefully, sky presets will be treated as any other content, will have copy/mod/trans flags and will have their own market. (There is an issue for this on official Issue Tracker.)

For now, all the changes are for your eyes only, that is, what you change affect only your view of the world similar with daylight changing. (BTW, both of them are on the bottom of World menu.) After testing period, there will be a feature for sim owners and managers to control the look of the sky for their sims.

One of the expected questions is about possible additional system requirements, or whether it will work on lower-end machines. They say that won’t be the problem. Check it out and tell us. Question that is not mentioned is whether it will affect bandwidth and server assets.

So, how do you like the new sky?

If you like this story, share it with the rest of the world. Thanks.
