At this moment, there is an in-world support of the protests in Myanmar/Burma. We are keeping the avatar chain (it is hard to call it a human chain) and occupying at least two sims. One is completely full, I think there is some space on the other. We'll spread to the next one if needed.

myanmar protest

It is a nice view all those monk robes and red shirts mixed with furries, gorreans and tinys. No need to tell you that the place is lagging, and that most of avatars appear gray. We got rid of every particle long ago (well, almost all of us did, some will rather give their human's kidney than lose blinging shoes). Some took their hairs off, whether to get monk look or to reduce pressure on the sim.

It is a bit strange situation though. Are those 80 avatars capable to induce any change in the meatspace? Probably not. We are all aware that people in Myanmar/Burma cannot even know what we are doing. The regime is not blocking the internet as some other countries. Even before they tried to completely turn it off, internet was heavily censored:

Most dial-up Internet accounts provide access only to the limited Myanmar Internet, not to the global network that most people around the world can access.

But we're still here. And we're staying as long as possible. So, it is not too late to check Austria City or Austria Oesterreich (or hopefully other nearby sims) for your place in the chain. As I've heard, there is a protest in one Danish sim too and one Italian is to come. This evening, the Burning Man will be protest ground too. Anyway, you can join Moony group and ask there. Skip your favourite club today and meet some new people in the second life. Join us!

If you like this story, share it with the rest of the world. Thanks.

  1. It’s nice that people are willing to show their support, and always impressive when +100 avies put time zone differences aside and face laggy sims to show support. Them removing particles and prim hair is even more impressive! ;)

Yet I think nothing can have more influence then what the RL monks are doing. By refusing monetary gifts from the ‘government’ officials, those can not end up good in next life. (Next RL life that is, not a Second Life. ;)) Would help though, if China supported the crowds and not the ‘government’.

  2. This is beautiful to see.
