In meatspace you can be identified by your look, your face, your body, your eyes. You can dye your hair and change hairstyle, you can do a different make-up. But no matter how much you work on yourself you still look like yourself. We're not talking plastic surgery here, those things are not everyday activities, not even for Cher. But here, in second life…
Not that it is possible to change yourself, we do it all the time. One moment you have short dark hair, just few clicks later you are blond with hair that takes years to grow that long. New eyes can be bought for 20L$, if you are too lazy to make your own. Any kind of surgery is possible, including raising your body height. Changing sex is… you know… just an experiment everybody do at least once in a lifetime. There is no single thing that is constant on your body.
I got my hair long ago, in my noob days. I had one prim hair before, but it wasn't making me happy at all. It was a nice work, but it wasn't me. The one I wear I stumbled upon roaming the shops with a bit of lindens in my pocket. The whole pack, five colors I think (they have mod and copy permissions, so it really doesn't matter) of mohawk dreadlocks for 150L$! A bargain! And it was just what I needed!
Eyes, I made them myself. If something is easy to create in second life, I guess it is eyes. Mine are made of some lizard's eyes. Lot of colored versions are in my inventory, but lately I stick with reds. The rest of my appearance, including body shape, can be subject of a change, but the hair and the eyes stays. I did tried different hairstyles, there is quite a lot of nice hairs these days. Few times I just screamed: "I wish I could wear this!" But it is just not me.
I need something to stick with. I guess most of us do. One more thing that is persistent on me is a pale skin, though I would like to try something really dark. I never understood how I got into pale story, my human is very attracted to the sun and tan. But, really dark skins does not perform well in second life. Or maybe it is my monitor or graphic card.
