Time to time, I ask myself that dangerous question: "What are all these people doing in second life? Myself included."

Seems like majority are doing what psychologists call compensation. One maybe cannot have a dream house with heliodrome, racing cars and other things that makes life comfortable in meatspace, but in second life it is no big deal. Couple of thousands linden dollars and there you go. Not many humans look like centerfold models but there is nothing in second life that prevents you from being ultra-hot sex bomb.
Despite what some media like to think, not all of us are compensating the things we miss in our first lives. Fortunately not. Some are exploring paths that are impossible in the meatspace. All the robots, dragons, furries, all the residents of surreal and imaginary sims. They are expanding the boundaries of the flash and bones.
And then, whatta hell am I doing in second life clubs? Dancing, I know. But why? Hardly we can assume that my human is lacking the possibility to go to the real life parties. And, if there is something my human is not missing in life, that is dancing, clubbing, parties.
So, it is not exploring the impossible nor it is compensation. We can assume that, due to my human's behaviour, clubbing is some kind of natural environment. But, it is not the same. It is not even close to the real thing. Me, as avatar, do not sweat, nor get blissfully tired, nor… it is just not the same. But still, I love it.
The same is with the cybersex. It is not the real thing. It is not the compensation for the real thing. Tough in the case of sex, some boundaries can be pushed. But still, the question remains, why are we doing it?
