And You Can Bring That Stupid Human That Hangs Behind You If You Must

It is a Calvin & Hobes episode that inspired the title. Go read it so we can chit-chat. It is actually about Argent Bury's meme – Statement of Principles and Goals. This is not my principles and goals but more of a way I perceive the metaverse. But it will do.
We have to bring those stupid humans with us. Otherwise we can just hang in the hibernation containers and dream the matrix of the database. And it is not that we need somebody only to pull our strings and type our words. Humans are those that give us life. It is a happy symbiosis – humans and avatars. We need each other. I, avatar, am an expression, therefore the extension of my human. An augmentation, to use the popular word. And that goes for all us, the avatars, all my shapes and outfits. No matter how different we might look and behave, we all emanate from the same source.
Problem with Hobes is that in the presence of people that are not Calvin, he is just a stuffed doll. A soft and cuddly one but motionless and lifeless. Just as we are just colorful pixels when some of the humans look at us. It takes a bit of magic dust for the charm to work.

More and more I think the difference between the “sides” is in the answer to “do you have an imagination?”
No, strike that – it’s “are you afraid of imagination?”
*nods and smiles*
Thanks for answering the meme. Seems like a pretty straightforward and healthy way of looking at things.
And…is that a new hot tub on the Hanging Gardens platform? More importantly, if I get in the tub am I an “Immersionist”?
Yup… a nice new tub :p
You are immersionist if you immerse in the water and feel if it is hot enough.
So, if I am using the tub to clean my body am I an augmentationist? Wait…it’s so relaxing…I might be an escapist too.
Darnit…I’m so confused.
hmmm I wanna try a little immersionism in the tub too!!!
looks cozy!!!
can you please pass me that bath foam so that I do not have to “aumgent” my arm outta the water???
Now, everybody reflect for a minute on the fact a man called Water-son is the forefather of immersionism (all right, bad pun, baaaad pun) :)
You’re right, Dandellion, the question is « Who’s afraid of imagination ». And inists on calling the tiger a cuddly toy.
Rick van der Wal kindly brought to my attention that my « Who’s afraid of imagination » quote might not be the smartest thing I ever said (oh my, there’s such a long list of contenders for the title of stupidest things I ever said, I lost track :( ). I have posted a kind of clarification over here which I’d urge anybody who feels offended to read.
Oh, and the Calvin and Hobbes simile still rulez :)
Now that tub becomes a nifty crowdy place. Gotta add more poseballs to it :p
Rheta, Don’t worry about people not understanding what you have said. That will always happen. It is not your problem.
Who asked for bath salt?
That was me. Anything with rose oil in it available ?
Sure, dear. Eidur, please, extend yourself to those bottles near you, Rheta wants to immerse in roses. ;9
/me opens her backpack and rummages around, tossing ammo belts and grenades all around until she comes out with a tiny vial of liquid.
“I knew I had it in here somewhere. Distilled from roses from the SL Botanical Gardens. The chemist who makes it is an Official Purveyor of Fine Goods under the Caledon Seal. Should be worth the money someone paid for it. The empty house I found it in was nice enough, anyway.”
/me lets one drop fall into the bath…
(whoops, crossposted…we are all going to come out of this smelling very seriously of roses!)
You always bring the discussion to a higher level in your blog. I am conducting a survey for a class on SL bloggers and was wondering if I might be able to email you a few questions?
Glad you like it :)
Sure, I’ll be glad to answer. You can send me an email via contact page.
/me waves ingratiatingly.
Have just wandered over here from posting looooong tomes to Rheta’s thread with you an’ Digado in it after someone chatted URL at party th’ other night. Lots of fun!
Wonderful how different the thinkings are even ‘mong ppl who are on same page (in same hottub heh heh). For me “avatar : SL :: body : RL”, an’ when I’m in SL I’m still same person as I am in RL. Use body to move around have fun in RL, use AV to move around have fun in SL. Consider myself human in both places, for better or for worse. :)
But also similarly an’ conversely have no problem with ppl who exist only in SL, an’ who have RL human sitting out there symbiosisly; that is fine arrangement also. Am slightly less comferble with ppl who think of themselves as not existing in SL at all, but as being just sitting behind keyboard in RL making lil pixels move aroun’, but they can come to the party too afaic, ‘long as they don’t try too annoyingly to convert rest of us to odd way of thinking, or to claim that they are Rights an’ we are Wrongs…
Is all in how nice you are about it, I say. :)
It’s all about a good neighbourhood. :)
I am not sure I understand this one.
That is obnoxious spammer pushing his URL on us :P
deleted :p
LOL you mercyless spamkiller :P
But…but…he may have been trying to tell us some deep philosophical truth about SL. Now we’ll never know :P
No, he advised us not to employ anybody we suspect that is a man. Or something like that.
