Philip Linden’s Hair
Now when Linden Lab is in search for new default avatars and Philip Rosedale is leaving CEO position of Linden Lab I feel like writing about more interesting things in second life. Like Philip Linden's hair.
How many hundreds of times have you heard the idea that Philip should get himself a prim hair, finally? How many times it was you to say that? But, if you think again, we'll agree that there is no other hair for Philip. If the default hair should stay somewhere, that is on his head.
Philip Linden can wear whatever he feel like, even the mesh hair and library clothes. The grid under our feet is his vision. Actually, it would be somehow inappropriate to see him wearing all those high-prim fancy-textured stuff. We all have those, Number One have to show some originality and distinction. And where to find originality in the world where creativity is the air that we breathe? Well, in the library we all have rezzed with. After all, it is not in realism, prims and textures as much as is in the idea behind them.

There is one more thing about Philip's look. As Sophrosyne said:
He is one of the rare ones who looks better in first life than in second.

Don't be shy to comment.
Dande…I agree with you on this objectively: he’s making a statement about the importance of sticking to first principles and using the platform. Again, objectively.
Subjectively, on the other hand, I think he looks out of touch with the times and and out touch with the world. Again, subjectively. I know we shouldn’t judge others by appearance, but by what standard can his look be judged good? He looks like a griefer, or a newbie at Phat Cats.
And…if our next CEO has a female AV, do you want her looking like “Girl Next Door” with system hair and clothes?
I’m still hoping the next CEO will be a furry ninja robot riding a ponygirl-driven chariot ;)
March 14, 2008 @ 9:21 pmOh no! That look is not justified by position, only by the vision and the idea. Next CEO will have a hell of a job to make a appropriate avatar. And, I don’t believe that Philip’s alt is wearing mesh hair.
March 14, 2008 @ 9:26 pmI don’t see much principle in this, Dandellion. Maybe one: the process off stopping progress, maybe even virtual evolution. All worlds tend to evolve, and ours has evolved to one where better graphics are possible (WindLight), more possibilities (sculpties), and yeah, also, better looks (prim hair, prim shoes). Then why cling on on something that is just nostalgia, a symbol of past?
Don’t take me wrong here, normally I tend to lean towards conservatism. I understand that in busy venues, it’s more sensible, even more respectful to the other avatars around you to not wear to much prims. But if you are the ‘face’ (or mesh, in this case ;)) of a world that stands for future, innovation and possibilities, why not show them? Of course, there’s also freedom of choice, but still… . ;)
March 14, 2008 @ 11:10 pmAt the same time I find my self liberal and speak about keeping something the old way. This world has definitely turned upside down.
March 15, 2008 @ 12:39 amYikes! Did we rezz in WoW by mistake or something? *dodges the mean wizards and clings at the wall, trying to get back in her grid, where all is - relatively - normal* ;)
March 15, 2008 @ 12:52 amSophrosyne never said a truer word, hehe.
March 15, 2008 @ 1:00 am[…] Miss Dandellion’s example, I suggest we postpone the ‘yay’s’ and ‘oh nay’s!‘ until we […]
March 15, 2008 @ 6:51 pmAs a noob, yet with a throb or three for SL, and more than that for Dandellion, I am hopeful that some of you who know Philip Linden in-world or Mr. Rosedale out-world would ask him the question and perhaps place a wonderful quote from him here on Dandellion’s space that we could all learn from. *:-) Peace.
March 17, 2008 @ 6:51 amI never met Philip. Though, as he promised to spend more time in-world as soon as he get rid of his CEO title, maybe my luck turn for better. :)
March 17, 2008 @ 10:27 amWhat about history? preservation? retro?
History is important…at least I think it is to Phillip.
March 22, 2008 @ 9:50 amI am not sure if Philip likes to be considered a walking museum but I do agree that if somebody is to wear those old-school hairstyles it should be him :)
March 23, 2008 @ 12:42 pmin a way its a good thing.. no prim hair artiste can emblazon their goods with *worn by Philip*
March 29, 2008 @ 3:30 amI am deeply distressed that they did not include Phil’s iconic look in the new Branding Guidelines!
FOR SHAME! :o
