So you had a great time shopping, hunting, grabbing freebies… You’ve been through the dozens of shops or just visited the Hair Fair. Then you came home but you were lazy / had no time / forgot to unpack those boxes and sort the things. Or you have just crashed which is almost as possible as your laziness. Now you have no chance is finding all those boxes in your otherwise tidy inventory :)

Packages

OK, no problem. Let’s take it step by step.

First, open the inventory, switch to "Recent Items" tab.

Recent Items

Then, open the filters subwindow. It’s in the File menu of the inventory window.

show Filters

Here you can choose which type of objects will show. it works for both "All Items" and "Recent" tabs, but we need the later now. Spot the field that says "Hours Ago" and "Days Ago", right above the "Close" button.

Using Filters

Click it to increase the value until your shopping pray appears. That’s it. ;)

  1. I seriously love you for sharing this!  Thank you.  <3

  2. Oh my gosh!! You are an ANGEL!!! TYTYTYTY!!! This is going to come in so handy for me!!

  3. tytyty!! Now I can find all those extra landmarks to delete them! Yay!

  4. And I had doubts if I should write this at all!

  5. I didn’t know about these filters, this is a lifesaver! Thanks!

  6. I have made a habit to always move something new into a special folder I have called !Unsorted as soon as I get it.  (The ! in the name is important because SL sorts names that begin with ! at the top of the list so it make it easy to find right under the Objects folder).

The first time I buy something I have to find it in my inventory and drag it into unsorted,  but after that I can use the “Recent” tab to see bith the thing I just bought as well as the previous ones which sitting in !Unsorted and it’s easy to drag the latest up into !Unsorted too.

If  it’s something like the hair fair  or a treasure hunt I will make a special folder inside !Unsorted and drag everything to that.   Then I am safe if I am unable to open my purchases or try them on for a few days – they’re all in one folder.  And opening up the Unsorted folder can be like opening Aladdin’s cave sometimes  “OOOOOh I’d forgotten about that!”.

  7. That’s a nice way to go. Recently I was thinking about all those messy inventories and what could be done about the problem. One of the things that definitely would help is having possibility to define where the new stuff is going, or even being asked where the new item we want to be saved. Just like on the desktop. I guess Lindens skipped that opeion to make UI more simple and not to confuse noobs in their first hour, but it’s just silly way to go.

  8. I think it’s more confusing that things do not go into the one place initially.

Where’s the logic in having boxes go into Objects,  some folders going into the clothing folder (like skins – which I do not keep in my clothing folder) and the rest just going into your inventory sorted by whatever random name that the creator gave it?   That’s what is confusing to new residents.  We should be able to say ‘It will be in a folder called “new”‘.

Does anyone want to start a Jira on this?  I would vote for it.

  9. I actually want to start a bigger project which would include those default folders, new stuff folders, inventory preferences, default settings etc… Then to make a JIRA and go to some office hours.

But I need as much imput from other people and their ideas.
