Bare Naked Or Lagged?

sandbox 12 Comments

We’re talking about the big events, like fairs, SL birthdays, Burning Man and such…. events that last for days, but you’re lucky to get there because each time you try to you just learn that sim is full and won’t let you in. And while you’re cursing the sim limitations, you know that even if you get there, it would be impossible to walk and see anything.

Hair Fair 2009

Lately people got a bit sensitive about lag, so (some of them) try not to wear attachments made of hundreds of prims and all the HUD gadgets they have. Some got a bit oversensitive so they bitch around to anybody that have ARC in yellow of god forbid in red. While some of the things we wear really add to the lag, some are just pure myth. You might want to check Rika Watanabe’s article about lag, but there is something else I want to talk with you here. Read more »

Feetlight

sandbox 9 Comments

I’ve just heard about shoes with very new feature: feetlight! Yes, you read it well. And it’s just what you expect it to be: same as facelight, but for your feet. It was hard to believe so I headed to the shop to see it myself.

AM Radio in The Space Between These Trees

That’s what makes his builds so great. And yes, it sounds extreme. This is not about copyright and the IP rights on second life creations, it’s more about life of an art piece. Read more »

Snapshot Copyright Mess

sandbox 12 Comments

Situation is simple. You come to the place you like, looking just as you like, you take a snapshot (or as it usually is, tons of them), you tweak and torture those pixels a bit and end up with something that we call a SL photograph, or simply (and for clarity sake) an image. Like this one

Purple

And that's where all the simplicity ends.

If you present that image in public, let it be Flickr, two questions arise:

  • What is moral and ethical to do about all the people that contributed to the image? Somebody build that sim, somebody made the clothes, jewelry and accessories, WindLight settings, pose…
  • What is legal state of the matter? Read more »

The Curse Of Bling

sandbox No comments yet

Second life is divided in two camps. Actually, in many pairs of camps. This time, it's about those who hate bling and those who look like Christmas trees. Read more »
