If you have took a sneak peek at the new Second Life™ UI, you have probably noticed that pie manu, the circle thing with several useful tools that comes up when you click on the avatar or object, will be replaced with old-fashioned, linear menu. Yes, there are many changes in the new user interface, some of them very useful, but getting rid of the pie menu is not one of them. And it’s not just me being sentimental here.

Facelight is one of the secrets of a good look in second life. For those of you that are still living without it, it's a transparent, invisible prim, floating in the air somewhere in front of your face and emitting light. It makes you always shine and, more important, it keeps those ugly face shadows away. As a side effect, it is quite useful in corridors, alleys, sewers an other dark places. But, simple as it is, it actually can make your life look quite miserable. Read more »

No, it isn't. I know that so many residents feels so hyped with it to declare the Second Life™ the next big thing and the next step that will replace the web as we know it. I can agree that virtual environments are possibly the next big thing. There is a lot to be discovered about them. There is a lot for us to learn, lot of things to do. Second life does change our feel of the Internet and communication. But it is not going to become a replacement.

Available vs. Mandatory

I just wanted to have a cup of coffee on a grid, to sort out my thoughts and catch a glimpse of nice WindLight reflections on the ocean. A nice way to start a day. So I clicked the green hand on the top bar, hard disk started making subtle noise and I was almost there. Almost!
