It is about those skins again. Quick reminder:

• I got some full permissions skins (from Another Shop, which I'll learn later).
• I did what anybody would, I packed them and started giving them for free.
• I thought a bit and shared some of my questions and concerns about second life economy.
• I turned out as a bitch who is ranting against free stuff in second life.

This one is about those female skins you can get for free at my place and the crazy economy of second life. Thought provoking situation is very simple: you can get four, well-made, full-permission, female skins for free. I got them, packed them and giving them away just as they came. Everybody I consulted agree that their market value is around 600L$ per makeup. And there are several makeups per box. All for free!  That is nice and that is where the problems start.

Putting quality full-permission skins for free on the grid could (and should) undersell lot of creators. Generally, that should be a good thing. Prices drop, quality raises. Residents should be glad. Bullshit! (more…)

If the whole second life is crazy how to expect that its market behave differently? For example, can you tell what is expected to pay for a house or a set of textures? No, you can not. Prices ranges from a dozen lindens to couple of thousands. Yes, prices are different in the first life too, but those are based on quality and other reasons. In second life, logic is not rezzed yet. Wrath reminded me that we all had that phase in our early second lives: if it is for free than take it. Clothes, both male and female, shoes, eyes, vehicles and weapons, buildings, plants, lamps, furniture, more eyes, giant TV's and little dragons that flies above your head. And the pose balls and anims, too. Lot of them! It is like somebody put a spell on us on the Orientation island. Or maybe there is subconscious superstition that the grid will fall apart if we don't have more than 6000 items in the inventory. Just get it! Later we learn that the grid is going to fall apart anyway, so we stop collecting freebies. Or, at least, we don't take just every box with floating text above it. (more…)

It may be late news but the new version of ZHAO is out. For those of you who are thinking WTF  is she talking about now?, ZHAO stands for Ziggy's HUD animation overrider. That is an animation overrider. The thing that makes you walk, sit, fly… nice animations, not the default crappy ones. It is free and open source. Just pick it up at Winged Isle. (**edit of Jan2008 - LM is changed and a new version is out)
